Why bespoke jewellery for a wedding
Your wedding is the highest expression of your identity and your values. For many people — particularly those in the Nigerian and African diaspora — it is also a moment where both cultures, both worlds, need to be present at once. The traditional and the contemporary. The inherited and the chosen.
A bespoke piece can hold all of that in a way that a ready-made piece cannot. Because it was made from a conversation about exactly who you are and what this day means.
What the process looks like
Every Okan by DOLA commission begins with a consultation. We want to understand the occasion, the outfit, the stone preferences, the budget, and the story behind the piece. From there, we design something specific — not adapted from an existing design but created from the conversation.
The process typically takes 8 to 12 weeks from initial consultation to delivery. Which means if you are planning a wedding, the right time to get in touch is at least three months before the date.
What can be commissioned
Almost anything. A bridal necklace in 18ct gold set with your chosen stones. A bangle variation of the DOLA Mask Bangle with your preferred eye colour. A tennis bracelet with a specific carat weight. A pearl piece designed around a family heirloom. A ring that incorporates an existing stone from a piece you already own.
The only requirement is that it is fine jewellery — solid gold or sterling silver, real stones, made to a standard that lasts.
Can I also customise an existing piece
Yes. Every DOLA piece is made to order, which means almost any adjustment can be made before production begins. Different length, different stone, different size. Usually at no extra cost. This is not bespoke — it is customisation. But it gives you a piece that fits you specifically rather than the average.
