Fine jewellery is an investment. The way you care for it determines whether it looks exactly right in thirty years or starts to show its age in five. Here is practical guidance for every material DOLA uses.
Sterling silver tarnishes over time. This is the metal reacting with sulphur compounds in the air and is entirely normal. The more you wear your sterling silver, the less it tarnishes. The natural oils in your skin protect the metal. When you do notice tarnish, use a polishing cloth. Every DOLA piece comes with one. A gentle buff brings sterling silver straight back. For more significant tarnish, you can also send your piece back to DOLA and we will polish it for you.
Solid gold, both 9ct and 18ct, does not tarnish. It may lose some of its shine with daily wear but never darkens or discolours. To clean your gold piece at home, use warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a very soft brush. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
Natural diamonds and moissanite are both extremely hard stones but can be dulled by the build-up of oils, soap and everyday residue. The same warm water and soap method works well for cleaning stones. A soft brush applied gently around the setting removes most build-up.
For all pieces, avoid contact with perfume, hairspray and chlorine. Apply these before putting on your jewellery, not after. Remove your jewellery before swimming, exercising and sleeping where possible. Store each piece separately to avoid scratching, in the DOLA pouch your piece arrived in.
Every DOLA piece comes with an authentication card. Register it. This makes warranty, care history and any future work significantly easier.
Fine jewellery lasts a lifetime with basic attention. Treat it well and it will outlast trends, seasons and almost everything else you own.
