What Made to Order Jewellery Actually Means and Why It is Better

When you see the words made to order on a jewellery website, you might think it just means you have to wait longer. It means something more significant than that.

When you see the words made to order on a jewellery website, you might think it just means you have to wait longer. It means something more significant than that.

Made to order means your piece does not exist yet. Nothing is sitting in a warehouse with your name on it. When you place your order, that is when production begins. Specifically for you, to the specifications you choose.

At DOLA, every single piece is made to order. There are a few reasons for this.

The first is quality. Because each piece is made individually, every one goes through quality checks before it leaves. There is no batch production, no speed pressure, no compromises made to clear a warehouse. What arrives with you has been looked at properly.

The second is customisation. Because your piece has not been made yet when you order, you can change almost anything. Want the necklace an inch longer? Want a different stone? Want the bracelet in a slightly smaller size? Tell us when you place your order. Almost all adjustments can be made, usually at no extra cost. Jewellery should fit the person wearing it, not the other way around.

The third is intention. DOLA is not a fast fashion brand. We do not make things in bulk and hope someone buys them. Each piece is made because someone chose it. That changes the relationship between the maker and the object and between the object and the person who wears it.

The wait is typically a few weeks. That is not a downside. It is the time it takes to make something properly.
