Gold has always been part of DOLA. It holds memory, glow, and the quiet confidence of permanence. For a time, we offered gold vermeil jewellery and many of you loved it.
So what is gold vermeil?
Unlike standard gold plating, which uses a very thin layer of gold on any base metal, vermeil has a recognised standard. The base must be sterling silver, and the gold layer must be much thicker than ordinary plating. That is what gives vermeil its richer colour and longer wear, and why it has become known as the highest quality form of plated jewellery.
We chose vermeil because we wanted our silver designs to carry the glow of gold, while still remaining accessible. At DOLA, we never compromised. Every vermeil piece we created met, and often exceeded, the official standards. For added care, we even offered free replating services, because we wanted you to enjoy them for as long as possible.
But even vermeil is still a surface. And surfaces fade. Edges soften, clasps lose their shine, and the colour inevitably changes with time. Replating helped, but it was only ever a temporary solution. It added cycles of maintenance to something that should feel effortless. And more than that it didn’t align with the kind of legacy we are building.
At DOLA, we realised that what we are building is not temporary. It is legacy. And legacy deserves permanence.

So we made a simple decision. Silver should be silver. Gold should be gold.

This means some designs that once came in both silver and gold vermeil will now only be offered in sterling silver. For gold, we now create exclusively in solid gold in all its tones: yellow, white, and rose.
No coatings. No in-betweens.
